Project Overview

The Capacity Building for Health Professionals on GBV, HIV, and Teen Pregnancy Prevention project was implemented by Happy Family Rwanda Organization (HFRO) in Nyarugenge District, Kigali City. The project sought to empower frontline health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively respond to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), prevent HIV infections, and reduce the rate of teen pregnancies among adolescents and young people.

A total of 60 health professionals from different health centers participated in a three-day training workshop. The sessions covered topics such as GBV case identification and management, HIV prevention strategies, adolescent reproductive health, counseling skills, and referral mechanisms. Interactive discussions, group work, and real-life case studies were used to ensure practical understanding.

Through this initiative, HFRO strengthened the health sector’s capacity to provide survivor-centered services and to engage more effectively in community awareness campaigns. The project also promoted collaboration between health facilities, schools, and local leaders to create safer environments for young people and reduce the risks of violence, early pregnancy, and HIV transmission.

By the end of the project, participants demonstrated improved knowledge and commitment to promoting gender equality, youth health, and community well-being. This intervention contributes directly to Rwanda’s national efforts in achieving SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
