Empowering Teen Mothers through Livelihood Support and Education Access

Teen mothers in Rwanda face numerous challenges, including social stigma, poverty, limited education, and lack of access to health services. Many are forced to abandon their studies and depend on others for survival, making it difficult to provide for their children or rebuild their lives. Recognizing these challenges, Happy Family Rwanda Organization (HFRO) has initiated the Teen Mothers Empowerment Project  a community-based intervention designed to restore hope, dignity, and self-reliance among young mothers.

The project focuses on providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and education support. Each teen mother will receive small livestock (such as chickens) to start poultry farming, enabling them to generate income and improve family nutrition. In addition, the project will cover community-based health insurance (Mutuelle de Santé) for each teen mother and her child, ensuring access to essential health services. For those wishing to continue their education, the project will provide school materials such as uniforms, books, and stationery.

Beyond material support, the project will also organize training sessions on basic entrepreneurship, parenting, and financial literacy. These skills will empower the beneficiaries to manage their income, care for their children, and reintegrate confidently into society.

Through this initiative, HFRO aims to create a ripple effect of empowerment helping teen mothers break cycles of poverty, contribute to community development, and become role models for other young women facing similar challenges.
